You have done everything you were told – you got a digital screen and installed it in a visible and popular location. But are people looking at your screen?
Read our tips below to create engaging content that is sure to give you good returns on your investment.
1.) Create beautiful content
Use images whenever possible to support your message. Choose images of actual people and places, as studies show that people respond better to photos than graphics.
You can increase attention by adding the following elements:
-
Motion: Try video or slow pan effects across images to add some motion to your content. Studies show that animation gets five times the views of static images.
-
Numbers: Lists are a very big marketing trend. This has trained us to stop and look at numbers. Don’t write out the names i.e. seven, but use the number 7 instead.
-
Colour: Don’t overdo it with the colours. Choose a background colour and then use well contrasting but closely related colours as accents.
-
Contrast: Use extreme contrasts i.e. a dark background with light text, or a light background with dark text. Without a high contrast, your message won’t stand out and can’t be seen from a distance.
2.) Hook them with relevant information
Include relevant updates about weather and forecasts, date and time, event schedules and breaking news to lure people into looking at your digital sign. With time, they will come to rely on it for this type of information and get into the habit of looking at your screen all the time which means they won’t miss your important messages.
3.) Keep it fresh
Update your content regularly to keep it relevant and your viewers interested. Otherwise, they will start to ignore your screen. The frequency depends on the type of traffic – if your audience changes often such as in a tourist area, you don’t have to update your content as often as in an area with a lot of regular traffic.
If you have to keep displaying the same information like safety messages, just change up the design while keeping the message the same. That way they look different and still catch the viewer’s eye.
Schedule time-sensitive information such as events to drop off the rotation automatically, so you don’t accidentally display outdated content.
4.) Keep it short
Limit your playlists to an amount that matches the time your audience spends in front of your screen. It’s better to have fewer messages, so they get repeated more often and your viewers can see and absorb your message over time.
5.) Create engagement
There are many creative ways to get your audience to interact with your screens. Include clear instructions in your message, so viewers know how to get more info or take the next step. You can include QR codes or short URLs to websites as well as memorable discount codes for shops, cafes or restaurants that can only be seen on your screen. This is a great way to determine if your ads are working the way you want.
